breeding philosophY

Our goal is to produce a well-balanced, versatile border collie with the potential to thrive in any sporting, working or active companion home. The word “thrive” is a verb that means to grow or develop well; to prosper; flourish. With that being said, we strive for healthy dogs with a medium to high drive, a solid temperament, lower arousal, good off-switch, and aesthetic structure.

We believe that health, temperament and performance are key variables to consider when breeding border collies.

• Health: we genetically test all of our dogs through Optimal Selection to ensure responsible breeding. At a minimum, our dogs will obtain OFA hips and elbows. And when available, our dogs will receive additional OFAs, Pennhip, Basic Cardiac, BAER, and a yearly CAER exam. In addition, we provide a short-term and long-term health guarantee on all of our puppies.

• Temperament: we work hard to prioritize training and socializing our dogs from the moment we get them. We expect our dogs to be well-behaved members in the home and out in public. They must be of a sound mind, non-aggressive towards people, and tolerant of other dogs.

• Performance: we immerse our dogs in a variety of activities and venues to evaluate their drive and abilities. With foundations in basics to trick training for fun, we try to expose our border collies to whatever is readily available to us in our area, such as: conformation, rally, fastCAT, dock diving, NASDA scent trials and barn hunting, agility foundations and stock to determine their work ethic.
